About Me
Horton Guitars are made in Pontotoc, Mississippi. My wife, daughter and I live here on a quiet little 20 acre plot. My woodshop is just out behind the house where I build just a few guitars a year, more or less depending of how much time I can put into it. I do have a regular full time job. As much as I would like to have more time in the shop, I find that having a regular job to pay the bills helps to keep the guitar making at a stress free level and allows me to enjoy it without dealing with the pressure of relying on it for my main income. I believe the guitars are better for this as well.
I was born in 1986. I have loved the guitar for as long as I can remember. I started taking lessons to learn to play at age eleven. I took lessons for 7 years and really enjoyed it. My teacher had many nice guitars and really helped to encourage and inspire me. In my teenage years I became interested in building guitars. I bought guitarmaking books, woodworking books and pretty much any information I could get my hands on that would help me to learn this craft. In 2002 I had started work on my first guitar. Since I didn't have a teacher and was learning from a book it took me about a year to complete my first guitar. I have gotten better and better with each guitar I've made. My goal here is not to start a factory, or even open a shop with employees. It is all about the joy and satisfaction I get from building guitars and my love for the instrument.
